Common Questions about Pumps
Common questions about Dredges
Common questions about pumps
1. What kinds of pumps does Crisafulli make?
Centrifugal type, submersible*, high-volume pumps. (*the pump
must be fully submerged in fluid while operating.)
2. What sizes do Crisafulli pumps come in?
Centrifugal: 2" – 24" discharge diameter
3. How much water can a Crisafulli pump?
Centrifugal: 200 – 18,000 GPM
4. Choosing between open or closed, how do I decide what kind of
pump impeller I need?
Closed impellers are used to pump water. Open impellers are used to pump solids-laden fluids,
sludges, and
slurries.
5. How do I decide what kind of bearings I need in my
pump?
Water-lubricated bearings are used only when pumping
clear water. Grease-lubricated sealed bearings are used for most
applications. For the most demanding applications (where a high concentration of
abrasives or solids are present) the patented Crisafulli Bearing
Protection System is recommended.
6. What is the Crisafulli Bearing Protection
System?
Answer: A grease-filled metal enclosure that
prevents contamination of the bearings.
7. How deep does the water have to be to submerge the
pump?
Answer: 3 to 4 feet over the pump intake.
8. Why does it matter how high I'm lifting the water or how far
I'm pumping the water?
Answer: Because the vertical lift (static-head) combined
with the velocity of the water (velocity head) and, the
friction caused by the water’s movement through the piping (friction
head), added together result in TDH (Total Dynamic Head). TDH
determines pump performance.
9. How much pressure can a Crisafulli pump
produce?
Answer: PTO-powered: 2 to 28 pounds per square inch (PSI);
Electric-powered:
5 to 80 PSI
10. Why does a Crisafulli pump use more HP than some other pumps?
Answer: Because a Crisafulli pump is designed for
non-clogging performance and will pass larger solids, something which many
water pumps cannot do. Customers using a Crisafulli pump spend more time
pumping and eliminate the downtime associated with plugging. Higher
efficiency pumps often cannot pass solids that a Crisafulli handles
easily.
11. Can I use a diesel engine (instead of my
tractor) to run my PTO pump?
Answer: Yes, we can build a trailer-mounted
Diesel-PTO power unit for you, or a powered trailer pump,
where we mount a diesel engine or electric motor directly on the pump
frame.
12. Do you have pumps in-stock for immediate
delivery?
Yes, Crisafulli stocks both PTO-powered and hydraulic
powered pumps.
13. If Crisafulli doesn’t have the pump I want
"in-stock", how long will it take to build it for me?
Answer: Most pump orders ship from our factory
within 2 to 4 weeks.
14. How long do Crisafulli pumps last?
Answer: Solid steel construction of all Crisafulli
pumps ensures long and reliable service life. Some Crisafulli pumps have
been in use for over 30 years.

Common Questions about Dredges
1. What kinds of dredges does Crisafulli make?
Answer: Auger-tiller cutterhead type dredges; Diesel-hydraulic
and Electrically powered models.
2. What sizes do Crisafulli dredges come in?
FLUMP: 2", 3", 4" & 6" discharge diameters
Rotomite: 6" & 8" discharge diameters
Sludge Dredge: 8", 10", and 12" discharge diameters
3. What is a FLUMP?
Answer: FLUMP stands for "Floating Lagoon Pumper". It
is a remote-controlled dredge. An operator runs the FLUMP from a control
panel on the shoreline, so it is considered an "unmanned" system
because no operator is on the floating platform. FLUMPs are Electric or
Diesel-Hydraulic powered. FLUMP can be fully automated.
4. What are the Rotomite & Sludge Dredge? How are they
different from the FLUMP?
Answer: Both Rotomite & Crisafulli Sludge Dredges are
manned ("operator on-board") dredges. Normally, these models are
Diesel-Hydraulic powered, though a few are offered in
"all-electric" customized versions.
Rotomite is unique in the dredging industry because it is
self-propelled, much like a boat. Unlike the FLUMP, the Sludge Dredge, and
most conventional dredges, the Rotomite does not require a cabling
traversing system for movement. For the customer’s convenience and to
increase its versatility, Rotomite comes equipped with both means of
movement.
5. How deep can I dredge with a Crisafulli dredging system?
Answer: 8 feet, 12 feet, and 15 feet are standard
dredging depths. Up to 30 feet working depth is offered in
customized Crisafulli dredge systems. 60 feet is the maximum
dredging depth capability at Crisafulli.
6. How much material can be dredged with a Crisafulli dredge?
FLUMP: 25 to 60 cubic yards per hour
Rotomite: up to 120 cubic yards per hour
Sludge Dredge: up to 150 cubic yards per hour
7. How far can the dredged waste material be
pumped without a booster pump?
Answer: up to 1,500 feet.
8.
Can I rent a
dredge from Crisafulli?
Answer: Yes, Crisafulli rents complete dredging
packages and can train your operator at your site. Rental dredges are
subject to availability.
9. Can Crisafulli arrange a Lease-Purchase for me?
Yes, a number of leasing companies have expressed interest in writing Crisafulli dredge
leases.
